Happy Days Guest House

We spent a memorable week at Happy Days Guest House, thanks to Vanesha and her wonderful staff. They were kind and always willing to help with whatever we needed. The breakfast was delicious, and several good restaurants are only a short walk away. It’s also just a 10-minute drive to the famous Le Morne kite spot, which was ideal for kitesurfing. A lovely place with lovely people!

It’s a good value in a handy location, as long as you’re expecting a budget guest house and not a four-star hotel. Happy days is adequate rather than luxurious. Room #6 was spacious, with a nice balcony and a Seaview over the rooftops. There was a safe and a frig, and the bed was okay, though not great. The AC worked well. Wifi reached my room but not the balcony, and the internet was usually good except when weather blows in. Street parking was safe and never an issue. There’s also a small pool, though we didn’t use it. Plenty of restaurants and groceries are nearby, and it’s a 10min drive to several good beaches. Breakfast was fresh island fruit, bread, eggs made to order, cereals, American style drip coffee and tea. It was fine, but nothing luxurious. The room had an electric kettle but no tea or cups, though you could get a coffee mug from the bf area. Towels were limited and changed every 3or4 days. The room wasn’t made up every day, and toiletries weren’t provided apart from toilet paper. There’s no shampoo.

We’d booked the wrong dates, but Sabrina quickly arranged a room so we could still stay on the right days. The communication was great, and she gave us lots of tips and recommendations for exploring the island. Breakfast was fresh, too. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

During my six-week trip around the Mascarene Islands, including Réunion, Rodrigues, and Mauritius, this was easily my favorite guesthouse. Sabrina & JP were so warm, I miss them already. The rooms were large, clean, and had a great view, while the common areas were comfortable and a nice place to meet other guests. Breakfast was excellent, and dinner was available on request. The location worked really well for excursions, especially activities in the west, and it’s right in the cute village of la Gaulette with several restaurants nearby. Thank you both for such a lovely stay!
