Auberge St Francois

That long stretch of beach was almost empty, with fine ivory sand broken up by dark volcanic rocks and waves crashing on the reef. It was a lovely setting for a first visit to Rodrigues, with beaches and mountain hikes nearby. We chose Auberge St François for its closeness to the beach and regular bus service to Port Maturin. The staff were helpful, accommodating, and friendly. Breakfast was hearty, with local eggs and jams, and dinner used local produce too. Since I’m pescatarian, they made a special menu for me when the regular menu had meat. A great experience on such a serene island.

There’s a beach right in front, so it’s a good spot if you like swimming, and there’s a bus stop nearby. Buses only come every 1.5 to 2 hrs, though. I paid Rs8.8k for 3 nights. Had grilled fish and sausage for lunch at Solange & Robert opposite Auberge.

A very peaceful place, and the staff were so welcoming. I had a beautiful holiday at Auberge St Francois and highly recommend it.

We ended up hiring a better car ourselves, luckily, after the car the staff supposedly arranged two months earlier never came through. When we arrived, nobody seemed bothered. I’d spoken to Sanie by phone and expected her to check in and explain what happened, but she didn’t. The woman who took my reservation just said, “I am in Mauritius you go to the auberge.” Breakfast was upsetting too. Other guests were served yogurt, but not us. My husband had to ask what it was, and the lady seemed unhappy to serve it, as if we didn’t deserve it. We cancelled the rest of our breakfast and dinner. The staff were not friendly or helpful, and treated us, as Mauritians, differently from other guests. Funny, we live in the UK too 😁 Every guest pays the same price and should be treated equally.
