Diamonds Athuruga Beach & Water Villas

The honeymoon was unfortunately affected, and partly ruined, by the beach bungalow we were given. Some bungalows had no beach at all, just old sandbags in front of the terrace. If you book this type, be prepared to get one like that or worse. The resort itself is generally nice and the food is good, but what we found didn’t match the promotional photos. Instead of a wide sandy shore, many beach bungalows had unpleasant, smelly, moldy sandbags directly behind the terrace, making it much harder to reach the water. It looked nothing like the beautiful beach in the pictures. At first, staff dismissed us and said it was impossible to change bungalows. That didn’t seem true, since we could see guests checking in and out regularly. It felt like they didn’t want to disrupt their accommodation schedule or make the effort to rearrange things. We understand coastal erosion is natural and the resort may have limited control over it, but bungalows with sandbags shouldn’t be offered at the same price or standard as those with a proper beach, especially at a premium. At a resort of this class, this situation shouldn’t happen.

The island reefs were stunning, healthy, and full of fish, small sharks, rays, and turtles. It was a truly lovely place to relax. Our water villa was beautiful and always spotless, and the food at both restaurants was fresh and excellent every time. The waiters and chefs were incredibly kind. We’ve never experienced staff that good before. Everything at Diamonds Athuruga Resort was perfect; even trying, we couldn’t find a flaw. Some of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen and experienced.

I spent my birthday at Diamonds Athuruga, and the staff took care of every detail to make it unforgettable. The island itself has a magical feel, peaceful, charming, and surrounded by beautiful nature. Service was top notch: polite, discreet, and always helpful. The food was fresh, varied, excellent, and beautifully presented. It’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy every moment. Highly recommended!
