Swimming beside manta rays and a whale shark was an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Seeing these gentle giants close up in their natural surroundings was thrilling and humbling. Sean, Bob, and Azaan made the snorkeling trip from Dhangethi smooth, safe, and a lot of fun. Their local knowledge and respectful approach made all the difference. The food was a lovely surprise, especially after we’d tried all the island’s restaurants. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the private beach right in front of the hotel. Staff were very friendly, and Ali deserves a special mention for being so kind and ready to help. The facilities were excellent, and they picked us up at the port in a golf cart when we arrived. The owner arranged excursions with a private guide, small groups, videos, and a great boat. The hotel is close to Bikini Beach and the restaurants, and snorkeling gear is provided. The owner explained that casual clothes like tank tops and shorts are fine on the island. Excursions and the speedboat transfer are paid at the hotel on the last day. Card payment is possible, though they prefer US dollars. The hotel exceeded our expectations, and we’ll definitely be back.

We booked a trip to see manta rays and whale sharks. We saw the mantas, which was great, but couldn’t find a whale shark, and that was disappointing. The first reef snorkel was too deep for us, but a second one in shallower water was much better. We also got to see the whole southern part of South Ari Atoll. Shan, our tour leader, took great underwater photos and videos. When he noticed we were disappointed, he did his best to cheer us up and convinced us to take another trip the next day, this time to see Nurse Sharks. It turned out to be the best decision of the holiday. Swimming with the sharks was a unique experience, and following Shan’s instructions made it feel completely safe. Then we swam with Nano to a nearby wrecked and went back to the Nurse Shark, where we had a great time. There were dozens of sharks, stingrays, and zillions of fish. Shan took great photos and videos that will always remind us of the experience. On the way back, we had great conversations with Shan about the country, culture, and people, and learned a lot from him. On our departure day, he even came to the pier to say goodbye. That wasn’t part of his job, but he really wanted to be there. Shan made our stay in Dangheti unique and unforgettable.
