Gaafaru's tourist beach was spotless, and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The speedboat ride from Male Airport takes about 1.5 hours, a bit of a distance, but we enjoyed the trip. Iqbal arranged both airport transfers and our sandbank visit and snorkeling. He’s a kind, helpful guy who answered our questions promptly, though once or twice we had to wait because he isn’t at the hotel around the clock. That didn’t cause us any trouble. The rooms were good and had all the facilities. The hotel used to have a kitchen, but it has been closed since Covid, so we ate at a nearby hotel. Non-vegetarian guests should enjoy the food; as vegetarians, we found it hard to find suitable options, so bringing ready-to-eat food is a good idea. I’d wait until you arrive to plan excursions rather than booking them in advance. Changing some USD into Maldivian local currency made purchases easier and could save money. The hotel takes credit cards, but there’s a 4.5% service charge. It’s better to bring USD and pay most of the bill that way, using a card only for any balance. Remember to enable international transactions before leaving home. It was a really nice, budget-friendly Maldives trip.

Gaafaru made me feel free, surrounded by the ocean, the locals, and the stars. My fernweh has finally eased. The beaches are lovely, and it’s easy to get to know people there, try local food, and see how they live. The locals are a real gem. Mr.Iqbal showed wonderful hospitality. The excursions, including snorkeling and other activities, were arranged with great energy and a clear focus on safety. The food was decent, too. It’s only about an hour by speedboat from the airport. A must-visit place.

Mr. Iqbal looked after us like family. He and his team took us snorkeling and to the sand beach, and the experience was great. He even lent us a kettle so we could make tea and soup in our room. The hotel is affordable and a very nice place to stay, and Gaffaru beach is beautiful. I’d recommend it if you’re visiting a local island in the Maldives. We stayed at Gaffaru View Inn for four nights. The room was clean and spacious, with a balcony, a very comfortable bed, a small fridge, and a locker. The bathroom was spacious too and had a geyser. Indian channels were available on the TV in the common area, and we got to watch the IND vs Pak T20 match there. The food worked well for non-vegetarians. We’re strict vegetarians and struggled, although they tried their best. The food just wasn’t to our Indian taste.

That special year-end beach dinner with all the tourists made the occasion memorable for me. Mr.Iqbal, the hotel owner, was polite, friendly, and patient throughout, and his service was professional, especially for water activities like Shark Snorkeling. I enjoyed what the hotel provided and hope to see him again. Thank you, sir!

The people on Gaafaru are so friendly and welcoming to outsiders. It’s a lovely island, much better than the other crowded islands, and you can easily get to know the locals. Great hospitality from Mr. Iqbal, who was always around to help. His recommended restaurant was full because a political party had booked it, but he still sorted out lunch for us at a nearby place. Many thanks to Iqbal. I’d like to visit again.
