Fishing was the main event for us three anglers, and we had a fantastic safari with Ahmed, Mohamed, and Hussein. We caught several kinds of trevally, including giant trevally, plus plenty of groupers, dogtooth and yellowfin tuna, and even mahi mahi and wahoo. We tried shallow and deep jigging, throwing big poppers, and casting small jerkbaits. Ahmed and the other captains knew spots for everything we wanted to try. Some days were slow, but they kept looking for productive water and stayed highly motivated. We ended up with plenty of nice fish in the boat. At Mariana Inn, the airport transfer was perfectly organized, we got a warm welcome, and the rooms were clean and nice. The staff were especially friendly and supportive. We ate dinner at the lovely restaurant before fishing and again afterward. The food was great and the portions were generous, so nobody went hungry. We had a great stay and can fully recommend Mariana Inn and its staff.

Gaafaru is about an hour north of Male and its international airport, and the waters around the island offer lots of fishing. A few minutes by boat takes you to beautiful reefs where you can use light tackle for all kinds of reef fish, or big poppers and stickbaits for GTs. Just metres past the reefs, there’s jigging in 30, 80, 100, or even 200 metres of water. Go a little farther offshore and you might find Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna. The captains and everyone at Mariana Inn were really nice. Mariana Fishing Charters and the inn come highly recommended. We’re already thinking about another trip to Gaafaru.

The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, and both the spacious rooms and the whole building felt cozy and very clean. Bad weather meant we had to stay a day beyond our original checkout time, and they gave us that extra night for free. All in all, just what I want from a budget trip.

The rooms were clean, the food was brilliant, and the activities were a lot of fun. Mohammed, Ahmed, and the staff made our time in Gaafaru amazing. We’ll definitely come back, and I highly recommend the place!
