Alimatha Nakai Resort

For travelers wanting a genuine Maldivian feel, Alimatha Nakai Resort is a charming and memorable choice. The natural setting is stunning, the staff are warm and attentive, and the dining has a good reputation. It doesn’t have the ultra-modern luxuries of some higher-end resorts, but the stay combines tranquility with things to do, making it popular with couples, families and solo travelers. It’s in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

We had a really nice, relaxed holiday at this Italian resort, even though we’re not Italian. We skipped the Italian entertainment. Our Garden room in November had recently been refurbished and was very nice, with a large bathroom and a pleasant terrace just a few steps from the beach. The bed had a small hollow. It was cleaned twice a day, which was more than we needed, but still a nice gesture. The restaurant was close by. The staff there were friendly and always willing to help. Food was all inclusive and tasty, with a nice variety, though there was a lot of pasta because many guests were Italian. I would have liked more Maldivian dishes. There was one Maldivian night. I also missed fresh fruit juice, especially at breakfast. By the pool, the bartender was very friendly and always ready to chat or help. Glass jars might have given the place a little lift. The weather wasn’t very good during our stay, so the beach was wavy and there were lots of dead corals nearby, making it unsafe to get into the water. I did find two nice places for safe swimming and walking barefoot: the beach by the pier and the small beach just to the right of the overwater houses. It takes an hour and 10 minutes to reach the resort from the airport by speedboat. We came from Fulidhoo, which was a great island.

The service was excellent and everything else was good, but there was one huge drawback. All the shows and everything on the island are in Italian. If you welcome people from other countries, you should speak the international language, English. I’m very unhappy about this, and that’s why I’m giving one star.
