Clouds Beach Retreat Laamu

We loved the beachfront room opening right onto the turquoise water, and the weather was perfect. Evening tea on the beach and those sunsets were lovely. The home-cooked Maldivian meals arranged by the owner were delicious, and the staff were kind, the place clean and well kept. They even gave us homemade treats and a little wooden boat to remember them by. I found Clouds Beach Retreat on Google and contacted the owner on WhatsApp. He was friendly and quick to reply, and arranged domestic flights at a subsidised rate. In Laamu we were welcomed with a handmade coconut flower bouquet, then greeted at the Retreat with passionfruit drinks. Our room had a nice welcome decoration too. We had an unforgettable week this October, and highly recommend it for the food, setting, and authentic Maldivian experience. Can’t wait to return!

The beach really lived up to the name: incredibly fine sand that stayed cool in the sun, clear warm water, and blue skies with lovely clouds on the horizon most days. With only 2 hotels on this stretch and about 6 people on the beach on average, it felt almost like a desert island. We could relax in the palm shade and enjoy the scenery. We were there for our honeymoon at the beginning of February 2024. The owner replied quickly on WhatsApp and answered all my questions before the trip. I booked through their website, and he arranged the local MaldivianAir flight. After the airport transfer, we got coconut as a welcome drink, and there was a lovely honeymoon decoration on the bed. The room was spacious, clean, and nice, with AC and a mini-fridge, just a few steps from the beach. Staff were nice and breakfast was very good. You can book trips or rent a scooter to see the city. It’s a long way from Male and requires a local flight, but it’s 100% worth it, and you get to see all the atolls on the way.

The best part was the people running the place. They made it feel like home, were really friendly, and always seemed ready to make our stay second to none. Cloud Beach Retreat sits right on an awesome beach with wonderfully fine sand. I’d strongly recommend staying here if you’re in Laamu atoll.

The airport transfer was smooth, and the staff were very helpful. Ask them if you need help finding a scooter rental, places to eat, or must-see spots. The rooms were clean and spacious, breakfast was great, and the hotel is in a beautiful beachfront spot. I’ll be back, highly recommend it.
