My stay was a letdown from the moment I arrived. At the port, a steward spoke so quietly that I couldn't hear the property's name. When I asked him to repeat it, he looked me up and down, all the way to my shoes, then left without answering when he noticed a group of people. I eventually went on my own and was surprised to learn he worked here. It felt inappropriate to judge me by my appearance, and he could simply have repeated the name. If I'd heard which hotel it was, I wouldn't have walked. I don't understand why that group was offered a lift and I wasn't, or why he didn't apologize. Instead, he seated them and rushed me into a room on the top floor without telling me anything useful. There was no welcome or drink, and I wasn't told breakfast hours, the WiFi password, or which harbour to use when leaving the island. I messaged through Booking and texted the provided number, but got no reply. No one was at reception when I went to ask for help. The room was quite hot, so I asked whether one on the second floor was available, but still heard nothing. The TV didn't work, and the dusty floor affected my breathing because I'm allergic to dust. I was left to manage everything by myself, which I found unacceptable. Compared with the other places I've stayed, this was the only one where the basic level of professionalism seemed so problematic. I hope this treatment doesn't happen to another guest. Lying about what happened won't change it. Think twice before booking.

The owner did their best to make the clean room feel like home, and the island's villages were friendly. It's a small island, so you can walk from one end to the other in under 15 minutes, and the street was very clean. Getting there means taking a speedboat from the Public Ferry terminal at Male. The trip takes 1.5 hours and is very bumpy, at USD $25 per person one way. Check with the owner about how to reach the island.

MHEL place was our first stop in Maldives, and we're glad it was. The family and the island people made us feel so welcome. Breakfast was great, the rooms were spacious and cozy, and everything was brand new, including the AC. There was also laundry service and snorkeling equipment, plus more. Great value for the money.
