The Park House

Dinner was freshly made and tasted good, with several menu choices like pasta, sandwiches, and fish and chips. Breakfast was a nice start too, with toast and jam, an omelette, juice, and tea. Our half-board booking included both meals. The guesthouse is tucked on a quiet back road, but close to the jetties for ferries to the airport and elsewhere. We could walk to the Friday Mosque, presidential palace, fish market, national museum, and shops. Staff were kind and very helpful, and check-in was quick. We enjoyed the welcome drink and found our room spacious, clean, and well maintained. Hot water and Wi-Fi worked reliably.

The portions were generous and the food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, and even packed breakfast for us to take along on our early flight. It was just right for a night before flying.

We barely slept because the room was so uncomfortable and we felt unsafe. We only stayed because it was a last-minute booking before an early flight. Had that not been the case, we would never have chosen it. I absolutely don't recommend this place, even for one night. The room photos online gave a completely misleading impression. Although several rooms were available when we arrived late at night as a couple, we were assigned one that felt like a storeroom. It was dark and cramped, in a very shady area. The bathroom was in poor shape and the water was discolored, reddish. The main door lock was broken, with no latch and just one unreliable lock, so we wedged a chair and our luggage against the door to feel safe enough to sleep. The blankets looked dirty and unhygienic. The drinking water seemed questionable, and there was no kettle or tea or coffee, despite our late evening arrival. The hotel is down a very shady lane, far from the main jetty, and the walk felt unsafe, especially for couples or families. Please avoid booking here.

The food was a real highlight, with generous portions, tasty local flavors, and care in how it was prepared. My room was clean and comfortable, with what I needed. The fish tank at reception was spotless too, which meant a lot to me. The staff made me feel at home right away, and the atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. It's not a luxury place like the Intercontinental, so don't arrive with big expectations, but I loved the comfort and value. I'd happily stay again.
