Our booking was paid in full and confirmed for six nights, but at check-in the receptionist seemed confused and called the manager. He tried to persuade us to cancel through the app, which said there would be no refund. He also bragged that he had done the same thing to Chinese tourists the day before. We booked through Agoda, but he said he had contacted us through Expedia and refused to cancel from his side. After arguing back and forth, he swore at us and still refused to cancel or return the money. Two friends are due to arrive tomorrow with bookings at the same hotel, and he says they aren't booked either. I'll update after they arrive. We're trying to file a report with the local police and sort out the refund through Agoda, which has been helpful so far. The place is now called LaCasa Villa. Google photos show it was listed as Ukulhas Beach Inn last year, while Google Maps has the same hotel under Palm Oasis. Maybe the name changes are because of a bad reputation. SCAM, be careful.

The neighbour hotel was shocked by what happened and helped us find somewhere else to stay. Many thanks to Ukulhas villa / Villa Cresente. We reported this hotel to the police, who said it had a history of scamming and often changes names. We were left without a room on the island, and there was no refund. The owner showed us a reservation calendar with our name and booking on it, then said there was no room available. When we tried to discuss it, he swore at us and threw us out onto the street. He was rude and lied to our faces. Do not book here.

Being just steps from the bikini beach made the location hard to beat, and the cozy feel of the hotel was lovely for unwinding. The staff were the real highlight, so kind and helpful, and they treated us like family. They made sure we had what we needed, including snorkelling gear, and shared great recommendations. We couldn't have asked for a better stay at Palm Oasis. We'll always remember how warmly they looked after us.
