Ukulhas Stay

Ukulhas Stay was just what we wanted, near the port and right on the main road. The room was clean, with a refrigerator, and had the Maldivian standard of furnishings. The property was clean, too, and the staff paid attention to what we needed. Fair price, 10 out of 10.

We left after 6 of our 16 nights, with no refund. It was the only way to salvage the rest of our vacation. We found somewhere else locally for the remaining time, significantly better for a similar price. The place was quite clean, and coffee was available all day, though it was only instant. The furnishings were extremely basic for the price, and we found mold in the bathroom. I’m tall and heavy, and the furniture didn’t suit me at all. The room was very small, and the beds were far too soft and extremely uncomfortable. There was a kitchen, but we didn’t really have access to it. The houseboy spoke almost no English, so communication was very difficult. We felt cheated by manager Miko over a disastrous wedding celebration. The guesthouse supposedly had nothing to do with it, but the guesthouse took money from us under threat of police involvement. The beach is 100 meters away as the crow flies, but it’s about a 200-meter walk. That beach has so much coral it’s hard to get into the water; the beach where you can properly swim is 700-800 meters away. The guesthouse is in the middle of town, with motorcycles making noise late into the night. Wi-Fi was only in the courtyard, where there was no airflow and it felt like 40 degrees Celsius, too hot to sit.
