Mango Drift Lodge - Hostel

Partway through the long ferry ride, I decided to get off at Likoma Island and followed some other tourists to this place. It was already full, but the owner found space for me and had whatever I needed ready when we arrived at 3am. He picked us up too, and made me feel right at home.

The team were always smiling and happy to help, and Jamie was quick to answer my questions and sort out transport to Nkhata Bay. He kept checking that everyone was enjoying their stay. You can see how much care has gone into the place, right down to the little details and lovely decor. The rooms and outdoor areas were clean and good quality, and the veranda had a great view. There’s a big seating area with a bar and a really good vibe. The food and juices were tasty, the wi-fi was good, and the whole team made us feel welcome. We had an awesome time at Mango Drift. I’m hoping to come back for a few more days. Thanks, Jamie and team!

I’ve traveled around Malawi quite a bit, and this is honestly one of the best places I’ve stayed. It’s a beautiful beach lodge with comfortable beds, good food, lots of activities, and staff who are friendly and accommodating. Jamie made each guest feel at home, and Daniel and Evans at the bar were great too. I especially appreciated the steady supply of cold, free filtered water. Having that made me happier to spend money on drinks and food, and the baobab juice was delicious. Dinner is set up so everyone eats together, which gave the place a family feel and helped us get to know one another. There are plenty of comfortable places to relax too, including hammocks, loungers, and beanbags. There’s a pool table, beach volleyball, badminton, kayaks, and snorkels, all free to use. Boat trips and watersports can be booked as well. The island has plenty to explore, and the staff were helpful with ideas and getting around. If you get the chance to visit Likoma, definitely stay at Mango Drift! 🩷

We had an awesome, relaxing stay, and it really felt like paradise. The accommodation was lovely and only about 20 metres from the beach, maybe. The food was delicious, with good options, and they provide free cold drinking water, which is a great and useful idea. Kayaks are free to use too. Book direct and they’ll put together a good ferry rate for the express ferry. My only gripe was seeing local villagers come in, drink their bottles, then stretch out on the recliners during the day and late at night while talking. It felt strange. Still, we had a great time.
