Ajijic Plaza Suites

The shared kitchen came in handy during my longer stay, and I enjoyed relaxing on the deck. I came back because I had such a good experience here last year. The two-room suite gives you space to sit, though it is a bit worn; they’re working on repairs. The courtyard is well kept, but with rain every night it’s hard to keep algae out of the pool. The price is right, and there’s something happening on the plaza every night. I’d recommend asking for a room at the back to keep the noise down.

The housekeeping was wonderful, and so were the restaurant and Isaiah, who worked there and served us. He’s a lovely young guy. We loved the town and its people and will come back, just not to this hotel. It’s very run down and needs major remodeling. The flooring by the shower was falling apart, there was no dresser, and the closet was so small we had to leave our clothes in our suitcases. Electrical cords hung over the main bed. The young woman at the desk usually couldn’t speak or understand English.

The setting is a lovely little oasis beside the pool, with cute bungalows right across from the main plaza. Jimmy D's is a beautiful restaurant, and it served the best breakfast I’ve had in six months of traveling.

October 2022 update: the bungalow was $800 pesos on Wednesday, a good-value option for budget travel. A good friend had also told me it was good value back in 2018.
