Bacalar 102 Hotel

I arrived to find the room filthy and clearly not properly cleaned after the previous guest. The only alternative they could offer was a room without working electricity, and the staff member wasn't helpful. I wanted to leave and check out right away. It's now been over a month and I'm still waiting for my money back. I either get an excuse about why a refund can't be done or no response at all. Avoid booking here. It's been nothing but trouble.

The room was tiny and the sound carried so badly that we could hear every word, as well as constant snoring at night as if it were right beside us. Guests and staff were noisy in the evenings too. It was quiet only on the first day, when we were the only guests. Getting to the village takes a 30-minute walk along a dangerous road, or an unlit bike path that ends partway through. The rooms reeked of mold, and the towels were so threadbare they looked ancient. Breakfast was careless: Bimbo toast, stale pan dulce de leche and black coffee that was undrinkable, enough to wake the dead. There was no service to speak of: no room service, cleaning, camera, soap or shampoo. The grounds felt neglected, and the pool loungers were green with algae and looked like they had been there for ten years. The pool area wasn't inviting either. This place is completely overpriced. I'd rather pay another 10 euros and get the service they advertise. I've been traveling for three months, and for this price it was one of the second-worst places I've stayed. I can't understand why Expedia, Booking.com and the others don't check it before giving it three stars. Outrageous for the price.

The place was inexpensive and clean, and the rooms looked just like the photos and matched what was promised. Reception staff were really friendly.

Ugh, don't go here. There was no hot water, and they moved me to another room because the TV didn't work. I definitely can't recommend this place, not even by accident.
