Cabañas Luxury Bacalar

The staff were really nice, friendly, and helpful, but the facilities just aren't there to make this a comfortable stay. The drink selection is tiny, just beer, soda, or coffee, and you have to order food from somewhere else. The same goes for their lakeside spot, a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel: it's very basic, with few drinks and no bites at all. Calling it 'luxury' is a bit of a misnomer except for the steep price. I expected full service, but to me this is a B&B at best, and exorbitantly priced.

Staff were attentive, the rooms were clean, and the property is in great shape. It's 1 km from the center of town, with several nice restaurants nearby. Wifi is limited, but you're on vacation. We had a minor issue with hot water, yet there's so much else going for it that I can't give it fewer than 5 stars.

We were promised early coffee, but it never showed up. The room was unlike any other, with glass walls and sheers that let you see the water streams and outdoor areas, and I liked how different it felt. Even the tile bathroom design was unusual. There is a pool but no TV. The hotel is across the street from the lagoon, with no access to it. We only needed one night in Bacalar; the lagoon water was hot and didn't feel refreshing.

Everyone was nice and helpful, and it seems to get better every time I visit. I was here 6 year ago, and now they've added a suita room (La Patite), a bar, and some general facilities. They're still building and expanding. We were here in the middle of hurricane Julia, so we had no hot water or wifi for one night. Aside from that, I loved the place ❤️.
