Irving made the whole experience great, and the music choices were fun 😋. We loved the kayaks, the warm water, and those amazing views. And the food was DELICIOUS!

The reggae was PEAK, and the whole place had such a good vibe and great ambiance. Irving looked after our group really well. I loved the drinks, and the aguachiles and ceviche were among the best I’ve had.

One of the nicest things here was how easy it was to spend time on the lagoon. We could just take a kayak or paddleboard and head out, no complicated arrangements. Mornings brought fresh-cut fruit, a small, sweet touch. The cocktails were great too, especially with the sun going down over the water. We rented the whole Mayan Playa Resort for our group. From arrival, it felt like our own quiet spot. Every cabin faces the lagoon, so we watched sunrises over still water, heard birds in the distance, and caught that breeze that makes you slow down. It’s secluded but close enough to town when you want food or feel like exploring. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well kept, with thoughtful hospitality and no unnecessary frills. The staff were friendly and attentive without hovering. They arranged our tour, and the operator picked us up and dropped us back at the resort, which made things much easier. Mayan Playa Resort gave us the relaxation, lovely surroundings, and good hospitality we wanted. We left with memories worth coming back for, and we will.

I asked Mayan Playa Bacalar if I could stay an extra half hour after closing at 7 pm, since the full moon was due to rise then and I wanted to watch it and take a few photos. I’d first texted to ask about using the facilities for the day, and they’d sent the day pass and kayak rental prices. They replied, “O cobrarle $200 adicional por quedarse a sesión de fotos” which means, “Or charge you $200 extra to stay for a photo session.” Seriously, a charge for taking photos? I’ve seen plenty of rampant capitalism and nature being turned into a commodity while traveling, but this takes the cake. I wouldn’t spend my money somewhere that charges you just to gaze at the moon. Unbelievable.

The lagoon here is stunningly clear and blue, and the water is wonderful for swimming or kayaking. Even just sitting and taking in the view is lovely. It’s a peaceful place to get away from daily stress, with comfortable, clean cabins surrounded by nature and kept in good condition. The staff were consistently kind, attentive, and ready to help. Mayan Playa Bacalar was a great quiet getaway with warm hospitality. I’d happily recommend it, and I’ll be back.
