Hotel Casa Chips

Casa Chips is in a great spot downtown and right on the beach in beautiful Barra, but our three-night stay was very disappointing. Despite several emails with the owner, they had our dates wrong. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. We were also told we'd have to pay in USD to upgrade from rooms 1 and 2, which were the size of jail cells, and they gave us only a 10% exchange rate. The rooms weren't cleaned well, the dishes were dirty, and the common areas were not clean at all. We stayed at two other places in Mexico on this trip and both were great. We don't recommend Casa Chips.

The area is well worth visiting, but I wouldn't return to Casa Chips without a complete change in staff and housekeeping. In three days, no one cleaned our room, and after the single roll of toilet paper ran out, we had to ask for more. We had only two towels and got no fresh ones. At check-in, the woman confirmed we'd booked the premium suite with kitchen, then tried to charge another $50.00 USD a night for it. The owner asked for that too, before finally accepting that it had been promised. There's a good latte and coffee machine in the lobby, but we could never get a straight answer on whether it worked or if we could use it. Garbage and wet shoes were left drying on the upper balcony; the suite's patio chairs were filthy and its lounge chair was broken. Casa Chips could offer guests a great experience, but it falls short. Charles, as owner, please clean up and care for the property, or sell it to someone who will. It's worth saving.

We didn't stay at this hotel. It was the neighboring hotel Alondra that was the most horrible place.
