Mayanah Condohotel Bacalar

The front desk staff were the best part of our stay. They were very nice and suggested things to do nearby and in other parts of Mexico. The hotel itself was a bit unusual for us, but that made it interesting. The concrete rooms look nice and are spacious, with fairly large bathrooms, though humidity was high. We also found the Wi-Fi slow and out for almost a whole day. Our room description said there would be a hairdryer, but there wasn’t one.

Our room was roomy, and there’s a small but nice pool area that works well for family get-togethers and BBQs. Mayanah is close to the highway and not too far from the Bacalar Lagoon area. Miguel, the Guest Services Agent, kept an eye on what we needed as tourists and suggested great tours. We trusted him with our recreation and restaurant plans. Many thanks to Mayanah and the staff.

The welcome was very friendly, and when we arrived the host quickly fixed the missing piece of bedding. They’re easy to reach on WhatsApp, and there’s plenty of parking. The room really needs some care. There was mold on the ceiling, limescale blocking the showerhead, and the shower floor looked dirty even though it apparently wasn’t. Some paint touch-ups used a different type of paint and made the room look less appealing. There were no nightstands, which was a real problem since both of us wear glasses. My friend’s bedding and towels had stains and shouldn’t be used anymore. We could see into other rooms through the windows, and they didn’t seem to have the same problems. They even had hanging lamps and nightstands, so perhaps this room is due for an update. I’d suggest not renting it out until that work is done.

It was very clean, but the bed was hard and the Wi-Fi slow. The pool was broken, and nobody told us until we arrived. It’s also not a great spot for walking to anywhere near the lagoon.
