It really feels like a pet-friendly hotel, which I loved, and the staff were very nice. The hotel makes you feel like you’re somewhere else. I took off a star because the shower had nowhere to put your things, there were no corn tortillas for breakfast at 7:30 am, and the noise from the beach outside was annoying at night.

The area is very private and quiet, and the restaurant sits right by the sea with a lovely view and a fresh feel. The food was good and the drinks refreshing. You can swim either in the pool or in the natural sea pool, which is private.

The hotel feels a bit worn, and the pool especially could use attention. Still, the service, the lovely views from almost everywhere, and the restaurant’s delicious platters made up for that. Hotel guests can use the kayaks for free, and paddling across to the island for a peaceful day away from the noisy, stressful city was a great experience.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and flexible with our requests, and the restaurant food was great. From the hotel there are beautiful views of the bay and Isla Roqueta. A public beach nearby gets loud and lively on weekends, mostly with local families out for the day. We loved spending time in the crowds and having dinner on the beach, but if you want somewhere quiet and serene, weekends may not be for you. A day trip to Roqueta is well worth it. Walk up to the lighthouse, then around the top of the hill for magnificent views of the Pacific shores and coves. It’s a sweaty, strenuous walk, but coming back down to the beach feels great :)

The garden room gave us a peaceful retreat, with palms and shade right outside the back door. We spent time on the secluded porch, lounging in the hammock and reading in the chairs. Inside, the room was simple white with green and beach touches, a floor-to-ceiling window, and white wooden shutters looking out toward what seemed like jungle. If you want more light and better views, try a room on a higher floor. We arrived hot and tired from the airport, but were welcomed with smiles, cold towels, and a chilled Yoli from the fridge. Yoli is a typical Mexican lime soda that originated in Guerrero. The hotel has been around since the 1950s, and the bathroom and shower felt dated, dark, and cramped. I would have liked that space handled differently. There are lots of attractive common areas with vintage decor. The pool and restaurant sit on what feels like a huge balcony above the city and sea, and there are plenty of spots around the hotel to get away. You can borrow a kayak and paddle to Isla Roqueta, a quiet island about 30 minutes away. The steam room was nice, and there are a few jacuzzis below it overlooking the sea. We went to the spa one evening to ask about options, but couldn’t find anyone working there, so we wandered around and found those amenities ourselves. The hotel and sea were beautiful, but we felt the staff weren’t very attentive, especially around the restaurant and pool, and we often had to track someone down. The furniture was uncomfortable and dirty, the decor there lacked appeal, and the food was bland and unimpressive. It didn’t feel like they cared. The burger was the best thing we ate, and I’d recommend it. They also have a great mezcal selection to try while relaxing in the sun. The restaurant music, lounge and jazz with a beachy feel, was right on point. There’s no beach on the hotel grounds, just the pool and dock for lounging. You can jump from the dock into the sea. Playa Caleta is only a few feet away if you want sand, but it gets very crowded, the crowd and atmosphere aren’t the best, and it’s noisy during the day. At night, nearby bars and restaurants bring loud music and drums. Despite the rough edges and times when things felt neglected, we enjoyed our stay. The dark blue and bright teal sea and the views were mesmerizing.
