An old, lovely hotel right on the waterfront, with a beautiful view. There was entertainment by the pool on Saturday.

My mom Natividad guzman brought us here for more than a decade, and I have some of my best memories at this spot. The pool is amazing, and the moon pool is unbelievable. It’s a great, inexpensive hotel. I remember they have guacamayas. If nobody speaks English, it’s because it’s Mexico, I don’t know what Mario expected. If he wants people speaking English, he should go to the beaches in California, USA.

The pictures don’t match the actual hotel, and the property needs heavy maintenance. The mattresses are really worn, and customer service was very poor. No one at the hotel speaks English. I tried to cancel my reservation, but the staff wouldn’t refund my money. After I was charged, I asked for an invoice, which they still haven’t emailed. I called several times and spoke with Adriana Ortiz. She said her boss was away and she couldn’t help. She also told me I could contact the fiscal authorities and that she didn’t care. I don’t usually leave negative reviews since everyone makes mistakes, but I want to warn other travelers. Horrible experience and terrible service. Stay away. Terrible property and terrible people.

I’ve stayed here on three different holidays over the years, and hope to come back sooner rather than later. It’s funky and friendly, with good breakfast, a nifty swim-up bar, and modest rates. It may not suit a resort-minded gringo, but it’s a good bet if you’re not too finicky and live in the real world. Barra is a good vacation spot, with good food and a laid-back feel.

The gardens are beautiful and romantic, and the large pool area is well kept. Staff were friendly and really helpful. There’s also a sandy recreation area with a lovely view. It’s near downtown and fab restaurants with great views, and there’s plenty to see if you enjoy yachts and boats. We’ll be back often.
