Jaime was our guide at Chichen Itza, and his tour was incredible. His stories, visuals, attention to detail, knowledge, and imagination helped us learn so much about Mayan culture and understand what we were seeing. He was enthusiastic and welcomed all our questions. Afterward, he was still happy to help with whatever we needed. The setting is calm and surrounded by nature, with Chichen Itza practically in the backyard. It’s also a convenient starting point for other cenotes and cities such ad Valladolid. Reception gave us great suggestions for places to go and things to do, and the staff were kind, helpful, and always ready to assist. I left feeling the place is underrated. The food was great and filling without costing a lot, and it came out fairly quickly. For what you get, the whole experience is absolutely worth it.

We really liked the pool and the lovely gardens, and the hotel is very close to Chichen Itza. We used it for three nights as a base for visiting the site, several cenotes, including Tsukan, which we highly recommend, and Valladolid. The grounds are beautiful, the service attentive, and the food local and high quality. Our room, though, felt quite dated. The beds were on the small side, the bathroom was very cramped for four people, and the shower had almost no pressure. We also found it off-putting that staff pushed us to pay the tip in cash right away. When I’m staying for three nights, I usually put my charges on the room and don’t carry cash around.

The grounds are lush and historic, which more than makes up for rooms that are a bit rustic but charming. Food and service are first rate, delivered by courteous, well-informed staff. I especially enjoyed the pool and watching birds. Bring insect repellent. If you’re visiting Chichen Itza and Ik Kil cenote, give yourself at least two nights here.

I loved the jungle gardens, colonial buildings, and beautiful pool. The staff were attentive too, including the person who showed us a nesting owl. The birdwatching program looks excellent, but it was booked at the time that worked for us, so book early or check availability when you arrive. There are some real drawbacks. The rooms feel dated for the price, and the walls are thin enough that you hear your neighbors very clearly. Several sources, including the Google overview, still mention direct access to the Chichen Itza archaeological zone, but that access no longer exists, so know that before booking. We also had taxis requested but not arranged, and the notices about outside food and drink felt out of place for a hotel at this price. The restaurant is expensive, especially the wine, which matters more when you’re far from other options. The grounds and atmosphere are the strong points. I’d come with adjusted expectations for the rest.

Being so close to Chichen Itza is hard to beat, and we loved unwinding in the jungle setting. We sat on the porch listening to birds in the morning, a peaceful way to wind down in the evening too. The pool was amazing and refreshing. Dinner and breakfast both exceeded our expectations, with fresh ingredients and great service. We had a great time at Hacienda Chichen Resort.
