Bungalow Paraiso Bucerias

Pablo and Paola were great hosts, with helpful tips on restaurants, fishing, and tours. Julio and Canela, their dogs, were very friendly. Bungalows Paraiso is perfectly placed, two blocks from the beach and close to all the amenities. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it and come back.

The beach was nearby as advertised, but the rest of our stay was a letdown. We booked because we needed a king bed, a working pool, and a pet-free place due to allergies. We got a queen bed instead, and it was broken when we arrived. The owner replaced it after we asked her to sit on it and feel the problem. The bedding was standard, not the premium or hypoallergenic bedding promised. The pool looked nothing like the photos: it was run-down, missing tiles, and had a broken light sitting at the bottom. The owner's two large dogs roamed the property. There was poop on the lawn and around the pool, dog hair on the furniture, and dogs in the pool. It's disgusting even if you don't have allergies. The shower didn't work when we arrived and wasn't fixed until the evening of day two. We had flooding more than once in both the bathroom and kitchen, apparently from poor maintenance, and ants in the kitchen. I contacted the owners before we arrived but got no response. During the stay, getting help routinely took more than a day, even with the shower out of order. Daily housekeeping wasn't included as promised. It cost extra, and we had to track down the housekeeper to get it. The listing also said the rooms were soundproofed, but the dogs barked constantly, day and night. It claimed wheelchair access, which was completely inaccurate. We're not mobility impaired, but our ground floor room still required climbing two sets of stairs. After we got home, we found that the owner had canceled our booking three days into the stay. That meant we couldn't review it through the booking platform, get a receipt for tax purposes, or earn our loyalty points. I've spent over a month trying to get a receipt without a response. Expedia has also contacted them at least five times, with no reply. Once we realized we couldn't review the property on Expedia, we looked at review patterns across several booking sites and saw very few recent reviews. We now suspect that canceling bookings after guests check in may be blocking negative reviews, since most platforms don't accept reviews for canceled stays. This was one of our most frustrating travel experiences. If the listing had been accurate, we wouldn't have booked it for our needs. I hope the owner updates it to reflect what guests will actually experience. My advice: stay somewhere else, and be cautious about places with few recent reviews, as it might point to the same review blocking tactic.

The pool was warm and clean, and the grounds were spacious, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Such a cute, clean place, and the owners are incredible people. We loved it and will be back! 💗😍
