Hotel Palmeras

It’s a small hotel with a nice little pool, friendly staff, and a fantastic location. But a very loud water pump runs right beside the pool twice a day for about 45 minutes each time. That was bad enough that I wouldn’t stay again until they sort it out. The whole property is smoke-free, so you can’t smoke by the pool or on the balconies.

The location is amazing, close to the beach, nightlife, restaurants, the plaza, you name it. We stayed in January with our kids for four days and had three rooms. They were clean and had the basic amenities. The pool was lovely and clean, and we spent an afternoon there celebrating my son’s birthday. There’s also a coffee shop in the lobby, which was a real plus. One concern: our upstairs room was beside a balcony with no railing, so be careful with little ones. This is just what you’d expect from a boutique hotel, and I’d happily stay again.

We stayed at Hotel Palmeras from February 4 to February 19, 2025, and would gladly return. The staff were outstanding, housekeeping cleaned daily and was attentive, and the location was incredible. It felt like great value for the money. The rooms are a little dated, but comfortable. We had a lovely, memorable two weeks. Plenty of guests seemed to come back year after year, and some stayed for four to six weeks.

In four years of traveling in Mexico, this is the only hotel where we got just one carafe of water for a six-night stay. The towels looked stained and dirty, and one day they were missed during cleaning. Cleaning overall felt superficial. The room and furniture were scruffy in most rooms, unlike the ones shown in the promotional pictures. It felt like bait and switch. Guests who came by for a drink weren’t allowed to stay overnight, or even more than 20 minutes. We were checked on twice and told to leave. Our room was ready before the 3 p.m. check-in, but we still had to wait until 3.
