We only stayed one night. The room was dated and dirty, the A/C ran all night, the water pressure was almost nonexistent, and maintenance seemed neglected. Things felt poor enough that we didn't want to eat on the property. The price suggested a premium stay, but it felt more like a Motel 8 or an older Holiday Inn. Before we could even check in, we were approached about a timeshare presentation. Apparently staff have to check guests off a list when they arrive, which made for an uncomfortable start. At checkout we were charged an unexpected “tax” on a fully prepaid reservation. When AA Hotels tried to sort it out, the explanation changed to a sanitation fee, which felt misleading and frustrating. This fell far below what we expected for the price, and we wouldn't return.

Marina Fiesta is still a pleasant oasis for us, even though we've gradually started spending more time by the pool and in our room. The Marina and downtown Cabo have become so aggressively commercial and predatory that they've driven us away from going there altogether. We've been coming here for years, sometimes twice a year now that we're both retired. With an air package the rates are reasonable, and rooms with kitchenettes are comfortable and convenient. The other guests are usually people like us, regular, somewhat overweight middle-class folks who aren't looking for the boutique scene elsewhere in Cabo. The staff often start off in high revenue mode, but a little gentle coaxing brings out how genuinely likable they are.

We enjoyed our stay, and the concierge and other staff were helpful with arranging activities and supporting our meetings. The all-inclusive option wasn't actually all-inclusive, though, and they charged us for our first meal. We liked the drinks, and the shrimp tacos at the restaurant by the main pool were great. Jack's was covered, and we ate there a few times.

Hugo is great at getting people together, and the resort is beautiful and perfectly located. A couple of small things: you have to ask for your sign-off bill, and you should bring shampoo and conditioner. Also, salt, pepper, and ketchup. Apart from those minor issues, it's a great place to stay.

I've been back to Marina Fiesta many times, and it keeps delivering. The staff are friendly, polite, and pay close attention to guests. Lionel up front and Rowdy are great guys. Whenever I arrive, there's a hearty handshake and a hug. Noel at the back pool bar is one of the main reasons we return, and greets us the same way with a hug, handshake, and big hello. Jennifer at the palapa breakfast and lunch spot always gives great service with a big smile. Until next time, Salud.
