The grounds at Hacienda Del Mar look beautiful, but during our stay the hospitality fell far short of what you’d expect from a resort calling itself five-star. The experience felt overpriced and disappointing, with a focus on taking money rather than making guests comfortable. When we arrived, we were charged $13 for a 500 mL bottle of water without any explanation of the pricing or the resort’s process. Nobody mentioned that safe filtered tap water was available free. That set the tone for the stay. Staff seemed indifferent at best, and basic requests were treated like an inconvenience, with little urgency. We also saw two altercations between men after they’d had a couple too many drinks. Guest behavior seemed to go unchecked, and management didn’t create the atmosphere you’d expect at a luxury property. The food and drink menus were aggressively expensive, without quality or preparation that justified the prices. It felt like guests were being treated as captive sources of revenue. The worst moment came after my wife had a facial at the spa, when her necklace was misplaced or left behind. We realized it was missing after hours. Staff simply told us we’d have to wait until morning, with no attempt to help or show concern. We felt brushed off when we were upset about our property. Hacienda Del Mar markets itself as much more than it delivered. The traditional tiles and ocean views couldn’t make up for the hollow service. Cabo has better places to spend your time and money.

The grounds were kept up, our room was clean, and the location near the Marina with direct beach access is good. Still, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. On arrival, we got a rundown of rules and restrictions, but no useful information about amenities, the restaurant, or fitness center. When I asked, I was told I’d get a text. There was no welcome drink, and the two tiny bottles of water in the fridge were never replaced. In Mexico, bottled water matters. The gate staff made coming and going unpleasant. Every time, they asked my name, room number, and arrival date, treating us like criminals. If you leave the resort several times a day, it gets relentless, rude, and unwelcoming. At checkout, they charged us in dollars for everything we’d consumed and used a highly inflated conversion rate. When I asked to pay in pesos, the staff member argued, but the result was that we paid much more than the menu prices. The accommodation itself costs far too much for what it is.

If you want to spend vacation getting up three hours before your usual workday just to claim a pool chair, this is the resort for you. Staff allow people to reserve chairs at midnight and keep them all day, Hunger Games style. You can pay to use the pools and still struggle to get a spot. I don’t recommend this hotel.

Hacienda was a perfect stay, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. It’s a beautiful property within walking distance of the main attractions, and the food and drinks were great. Erick, Sergio, Raymundo and Favian deserve special thanks for making our visit so memorable. The service was outstanding.

The restaurant handled our dietary needs so well that they even made a salad dressing just for us. We had a memorable romantic dinner on the beach, where Diana anticipated what we needed and gave warm, personal service. Over our two weeks at Hacienda Beach Club and Residences in November 2025, the office, restaurant, pool, and beach teams were consistently attentive and went out of their way to help. Salvador was always kind and thoughtful whenever we needed a ride. Rodrigo and Pedro enjoyed our humor while taking care of food service, as did the rest of the employees. Manny was a cheerful, familiar presence at the pool. Managers Eduardo, Tony and Michael were polished and supportive. We highly recommend the resort. …Linda and David
