Hotel Boutique Casa Zafra

The staff were amazing, and the hotel is across from Campeche Bay. There’s a pharmacy and an oxxo within an easy walk. My room was just okay: the bed was too soft, and moisture from the air conditioning was dripping onto the door frame, which was starting to come apart. It was inconvenient that smoking wasn’t allowed anywhere in the courtyard outside. You had to leave the property completely and go outside the front door.

The location is great, and aside from a few issues, the place is fine. The bed is king-size but made up of what I think were two single mattresses. One was in decent shape, while the other sagged and I could feel the springs when lying down. Water from the shower sprayed everywhere except where you needed it, and the sink left water pooled and splashing around. They really need to fix those things for the stay to be truly good.

The service was friendly and excellent from the moment we arrived. It’s a pleasant, quiet place close to the boardwalk, with an Oxxo on the corner and a kitchen in the common area for guests. Breakfast is coffee and bread. A few things could be better: the air conditioning wasn’t very strong, though there was a fan, and the mattress felt old and uncomfortable. The washing machine ran at night and was a little noisy in my room. Other than that, everything was fine. It doesn’t really feel like a boutique hotel.

We had a good reception at first, but things went badly when I checked the room and found a glass door open with a broken lock. I tried closing it, couldn’t, and immediately told the person who checked us in, both because the hotel rules required it and because someone could get in without being noticed. After going back and forth, a staff member said they’d call an aluminum repairman and charge me because I had supposedly forced and broken the door. I firmly refused to take responsibility. It became tense and left my wife and me very upset. They eventually fixed it without charging us, but we couldn’t enjoy the stay after that and just wanted to leave. Later, while washing my glass, I dropped it. I called the emergency number they had given me, but nobody answered. I messaged about the glass and the door, and they didn’t reply until morning. I’d been told the manager would arrive at 7:00 PM, but she never came. The management and service were terrible. I won’t return to this hotel or any other from the brand.
