Francis Drake by DOT Tradition Hotel

The rooms were tidy and clean, though basic, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast comes with the stay, but it was really below par, so we went to some of the great places nearby instead. The location is great.

The only bright spot was the nice housekeeping staff. Everyone else, from the front desk to the restaurant, seemed indifferent and unfriendly, and the breakfast was a joke. The AC was either on high or not working at all. For the price, this was one of the worst hotels we've stayed at in this class in Mexico, both for value and comfort. There's no elevator. We're in our 70s, and when we checked in and out nobody offered to help with our bags. Three young women just sat and watched us haul them. When our taxi arrived to leave, a hotel man suddenly appeared and rolled the bags we'd carried downstairs to the front door. He wanted a tip, and we gave him one like suckers, just so we wouldn't look like rude tourists. Go somewhere else where your business might be appreciated.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice. The rooms face the street, though, and it can get quite noisy. Maybe you can choose one facing the patio. Great hotel otherwise.

The friendly staff and good breakfast were the good parts, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I don't see how it gets a four star rating. The reception looks nice, then the rooms don't live up to it. Sheets were stained in two of the three rooms we used, and the AC was either on or off, so it was tropical heat or freezing cold. The rooms felt very old, and most windows looked straight at walls. The bathroom tap sprayed water everywhere when turned on, and the fridge in the room was empty.
