Hotel Isabel Campeche

The other staff were pleasant, and the location works well for visiting the city's World Heritage sites on a budget. But we waited five hours for a shift change before anyone at reception could turn on the air conditioning, since the controller was kept there. If it's hot, I'd seriously consider another hotel. The front desk staff member we dealt with shouldn't be in a public-facing job.

Booking online cost us about half what the front desk would have charged, which was the one bright spot. The bed was horribly hard and lumpy, and the pillows were even worse. I like firm beds, but this was another level. At 1 a.m., after the hotel had confirmed a taxi for me, I woke to find the staff asleep. They told me the drivers were asleep too and couldn't get me a car, so I had to walk to the city center, find one, return to the hotel, and then finally make it to the bus station. While waiting in the hotel hall, I got bitten by mosquitoes, about one in every ten.

Room 28 was okay, and the location was good, but I changed hotels as soon as I could. In the morning, it sounded like washing machines were pounding through the wall, and late at night the receptionist played anime fight sounds at full volume, like dragons dying. The shower was the worst I've had in any hostel or hotel in Mexico: water kept stopping, then came back too hot, then cold, then stopped again.

During the day there was construction inside the building, and our room's tiny windows were high up near the ceiling with no view. For the same price, there are better hotels in Campeche.
