I booked Room 15 through Airbnb, and staying there was very disappointing. It smelled strongly and wasn’t clean. Several basic things were broken or damaged: the balcony door lock, the lights, and the fan didn’t work, and many kitchen utensils were damaged. If you’re given Room 15, I’d honestly avoid it so it doesn’t spoil your stay.
We booked through Airbnb and would definitely return. It felt safe, near a small fishing community with local restaurants, and away from the crowds and bustle of the hotel zone. A lovely, clean, quiet white-sand beach frequented by locals is literally a five-minute walk away.
The room was clean and the view was amazing. We booked through airbnb, and I’d recommend the place, but for a first Cancun trip with little Spanish and small kids, I might choose the hotel zone. We had trouble explaining where we were. After renting a car, its battery died, and the person coming to jump-start it couldn’t find us and spoke little English. Since we weren’t in the hotel zone, it took twice as long for help to arrive. I’d recommend renting a car here. It’s 30 minutes from the hotel zone and even a food walk from the attractions.
Our condo was right on the beach, away from the main hotel zone, and it was modern and very clean.
