Adhara Express Hotel

We were only staying one night so we could be near the bus stop in the morning, which meant being moved wasn’t a huge disadvantage. Still, we arrived at 10pm through Expedia and were told we’d be transferred to Adhara Cancun hotel instead. They arranged a free taxi, but said Adhara Express was closed for low season. They could clearly update their listing to stop taking bookings if the hotel is closed. I don’t think it’s right to accept a reservation and move guests to another property without telling them first. Waiting for a taxi and transferring hotels when you arrive late and tired isn’t ideal. The hotel itself seemed okay, but I’d book it at your own risk.

There wasn’t anyone at the hotel when we arrived, apart from a security guard who didn’t speak English. We’d booked through Expedia, and the guard called someone. A woman told us someone would come collect us and take us to another hotel. We waited about 30 minutes for the transfer, with no warning ahead of time. We had booked at least a month earlier, so they had plenty of time to tell us our reservation had been moved. This was very unprofessional and unacceptable. I won’t book here again, and I don’t trust them.

There are a few places to eat within walking distance, and the location is handy if you want to stay near the ADO bus station in central Cancún. The walls are thin, though, so you can easily hear people in the corridor or the room above.

After a long travel day, we arrived with a booking and were told the hotel wasn’t actually open. They said we’d either have nowhere to stay or would have to accept a transfer to their partner hotel, which they described as an upgrade. We ended up at a different hotel a kilometer away, on a busy road that isn’t really walkable to anything. Our “upgraded” room faced a speed hump on a ramp onto a busy road, so we heard cars braking and accelerating right outside the window all night. This was a bait and switch, and I don’t recommend this hotel brand. There are many better options in Cancun, and I’ll avoid this brand from now on.
