A beautiful sea view and some potential couldn’t make up for the poor facilities and careless service. We had a blocked sink and no hot water. After two hours without a response, we insisted and were finally moved to another room at midnight. It faced an active construction site, where loud banging woke us early. Construction seemed to be happening throughout the hotel, and seeing bricks fall into the pool area felt genuinely dangerous.

The view was beautiful, but that’s the only positive I can think of. We weren’t told about the renovations before booking, and then workers and painters suddenly lowered themselves in front of my window while I was in bed. There was paint everywhere, and the balcony had old, ugly, worn plastic chairs. One day we were told to pack our things because pest control was coming, then kept out of the room for hours. The deluxe room was dirty, with battered furniture and towels that were grey and ragged. Housekeeping never did the floor or bathroom counter. The TV only had Netflix, set so quietly it was inaudible, with no way to connect earphones. The hotel feels run down and the service is practically nonexistent. The hotel charges locally for beach cleaning, but the rocky beach wasn’t cleaned once during my 10 days. There were only about four rickety beach chairs and no towel service. The toilet by the pool wouldn’t lock, and it was often out of toilet paper. At the restaurant, staff pushed for tips and tried to pass a 20 percent tip off as a service charge.

We’d booked a king room five months ahead but were given a room with two small beds. They and the pillows were extremely hard and uncomfortable. Noise from next door went on until at least 2 a.m., then started again at 6:40. Their alarm sounded as if it were my phone beside me, and the thin walls let bright light through around the connecting door. I told the front desk the next morning that we were leaving after one night, and we moved to another hotel. I booked through Delta Stays; they said they’d repeatedly tried to reach Bsea about a refund, but got no response. I tried many times too and never got a clear answer about getting my money back. The place is run down and felt like a bad motel. For a better deal, I’d suggest Cyan Hotel a couple of hotels up, or paying more for somewhere nicer.

As of February 2026, this is a very old hotel that was getting a much-needed paint job on the outside while we were there. Our rooms were clean, and we didn’t find any rodents or bugs. The ocean view from our Deluxe Ocean View room was gorgeous, though there was no chair, just a small, wobbly wooden bench by the dresser. Some D.O.V. rooms share balconies and some don’t. There are few power outlets, so bring a power bar if you need to charge more than three things at once. At check-in they asked for a $100 CDN damage deposit per room. I rented two rooms, and they still hadn’t returned my $200 after three weeks. They’d also stopped answering me on WhatsApp. There’s also a fee to clean seaweed from the beach, based on how long you stay. We paid $320 CDN for two rooms for 10 days. So $520 was gone before we even got to our rooms. Just another scam, I guess. They take you straight to your room and check that everything works. Our door lock had an issue, and maintenance came right away. But maintenance isn’t available around the clock. If your toilet plugs outside their hours, you’re stuck waiting until they show up around 9 a.m. There isn’t a landline in the room; reception communicates with you by WhatsApp and can help set it up. Reception staff spoke very good English and were friendly and accommodating. WiFi worked well. Depending on the time of day, hot water could take up to 10 minutes to come through the shower. I assume our room was far from the boiler. The hotel also had random power cuts. Seven days into our 10-day stay, it had gone out three times, from just a couple of minutes to about two hours. The outages were limited to the hotel, not the surrounding area, but luckily the room card readers kept working. There’s a shop at the entrance gate with water, alcohol, soft drinks, snacks, toiletries, and ice at decent prices. Buy bottled water. Drink the tap water at your peril. If the power’s out, there’s an Oxxo a short walk away. The hotel restaurant runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The staff are very friendly, though their English is shaky. It’s easy enough to communicate, especially if you know a few basic Spanish words. The food is okay, portions are fair, and service is quite good. Prices are about 95% of what I’d expect back home in Vancouver. A burger and fries cost about $20 CDN, and the cheapest beer is around $6 a can. They add a 20% tip, so watch for that. Elsewhere, 10% is usually a basic tip and 15% is considered good. There are two restaurants within a five-minute walk. An R2 bus stops outside the gate if you want to reach the center of the Hotel Zone. Would I return? Definitely not. The hotel seemed cheap when I first booked, but the fees, food, and drinks add up fast. One person could easily spend $80-$100 CDN a day eating three meals at the restaurant, before alcohol.

The owners should drop the rating by at least two stars and call this a one- or two-star apartment hotel. The title is very misleading. It’s in a great location, but there are hardly any amenities, cleanliness is poor, and the only restaurant isn’t very good. There’s almost nothing nearby apart from the AXXO convenience store. The place needs a real transformation, not just a cosmetic touch-up. Gustavo, Francisco, and Sanjay deserve credit for keeping things going. Young Gustavo, who’s a student, checked us in and was extremely competent. Hospitality comes naturally to him. He handled our problems professionally and made us feel welcome. Without him, we wouldn’t have stayed.
