Cyan Cancun Resort & Spa

Now that we've checked out, here's my second review: this place gets zero stars. It's dirty and unprofessional, and in bad shape inside and out. The shower didn't work, no water came out, so I couldn't wash my hair. There was no lighting, the lamps had blown bulbs, and there were no outlets. No decor, dirty sheets and comforter, and it was loud. They gave us a dirty rag. I asked several times for a new one and never got one, then they tried to charge us for it. The front desk woman rolled her eyes and had a huge attitude about everything. We paid for breakfast, but when we arrived she said we hadn't, so we'll dispute that charge. It's a scam and a joke. There was also an open water bottle in the fridge. Thankfully I spotted it, so they didn't charge us for that too. Spend your money somewhere else.

Our room had a strong sewage smell, was outdated, and had rust in the bathroom, a dirty couch and a shower without a door, so water got onto the floor. They didn't answer the phone, and a hotel worker lied when I asked about food options, saying there were none beyond across the street. There are lots of places to eat and shop farther down. There are much better hotels and resorts down the street. It's like a different world there. The police stop area is on the street before the hotels. Be careful around it, and don't go out at night. We headed back around 10 and were stopped at the police checkpoint by an officer with a flashlight. He told me to pull over and claimed I'd been speeding, which I wasn't, and using GPS on my phone. He wanted my driver's license and said he'd write tickets. He told me I could pay at the police station downtown tomorrow at 3 pm, but my flight was at 9 am, and he said he'd keep my license. Then he offered to take cash right then instead. I asked where an ATM was because I didn't have time to pay the next day. He told me where one was and said he'd return my license when I came back with $200. I called the hotel 30xs for help, but nobody answered. I returned with the cash, and the officer let me continue to the hotel. I reported it there. They said they hadn't heard of this before, which I don't believe, and told me to go to the police station. I didn't feel safe leaving the hotel, so I called instead. Long story short, they're all working together and don't care. The police will rob you here at night. Don't leave the resort area. Neither the police station nor the hotel was any help, so don't bother calling or reporting anything.

I spent three days here, and everything was perfect. The views were lovely and people were so kind and helpful. A few people were willing to help me with anything I needed. Mayely was especially sweet and helpful. At the restaurant, William listened carefully and made a real effort to understand what I needed.

We came to Cancun to scuba dive for my husband's birthday, but the weather meant the dives were canceled except for one day. The rooms were clean and nice, which is what I look for. The showerhead sprays water all over the ceiling, but otherwise the room was good. Restaurant service was slow, and the staff didn't speak English very well. ISMELY was a wonderful waitress, though. She was quick and remembered our breakfast orders each day, so we tipped her well every day. I asked several times for something for James's birthday, like a decorated bed or cake, but the hotel didn't do anything.
