We hadn't meant to book without all-inclusive, and ordering food, drinks, and snacks outside the restaurant menu was harder that way. The snack bars wouldn't serve us unless we had the package. Once we upgraded, things went smoothly, and the food, drinks, and service were good. Our oceanfront room was comfortable and had what we needed. There was a small fridge issue that got fixed quickly. Construction around the resort was an eyesore, but didn't interfere with anything. We went over Easter, so there were lots of activities for the kids. The gym is small but has everything you need. There are lots of stairs, and the elevators worked only sometimes. Antonio served us on the beach for a few days and was lovely, always helping with a smile. I found the male staff more helpful than the female staff: the women were brief when we asked about amenities and the resort, and kept referring us to a QVC for more information. The men were patient, answered our questions, and made suggestions. The room number on our booking was wrong. Restaurants couldn't find us in their system, and we were repeatedly singled out as if we didn't belong. They would let us dine only after announcing that we didn't exist. Reception said it was a system error, but it was never fixed.

For our honeymoon, we had booked a swim-up suite. The resort had been contacting us for over a week beforehand, trying to get us to switch to a regular suite, but I declined. When we arrived, we were told the room wasn't ready and to check back later. After about two hours, we went to concierge to explain our frustration. That's when they said the swim-up room was overbooked for the night, so we'd have a different room and could check in to the one we booked at 3 pm the next day. The first room smelled awful and was dirty. The other room was clean. The swim-up pool was supposed to be adults-only, but families with children were in it constantly. Security only started keeping kids out on our last full day, even though there were plenty of other pools for families. The resort had also promised us honeymoon extras, none of which arrived. Staff were rude and unapologetic about the check-in problems, and seemed much more accommodating to people of Mexican descent. Other Americans we spoke with were having similar experiences. At our previous resort earlier that week, we were treated equally with everyone else. The beach was nice, and the bus stop is nearby, but there was no shuttle. The place is poorly maintained and needs a lot of upkeep. The jacuzzis were often colder than the pools. The $88 per person all-inclusive package wasn't worth it. The food and restaurant choices were terrible for that price, and we saved money and ate better by taking the bus down the strip. The online image of this resort didn't match what it was like in person. For the room prices, don't waste your money. Other resorts further along the strip offer similar room options. It wasn't luxury or romantic at all.

We had a very good three-night stay at Emporio Cancun in Dec 2025, in room D404, an oceanfront room with a sofa bed and jacuzzi. The view was breathtaking, the toilet was clean, hot water worked, and the bed was soft. One issue came up at 1am: even though the balcony door was locked properly, its connection to the AC meant the unit wouldn't work. We had to call an engineer to fix the door thermostat. We chose the all-inclusive package, which made eating and drinking convenient. The beach was very clean and had a vigilant lifeguard. Food was the main drawback: it was all Mexican, with very little international variety and nothing from Asia. We asked the chef to make something, and he kindly did. The Christmas diner was nice too. The staff were courteous and the pools clean. Food variety could be better, and they should offer an airport shuttle. For another visit, I'll try a different nearby resort.

The location had a more open beach, with waves and a lot of wind, but other parts of the stay were rough. The hotel wasn't cleaned well: beer cans and cigarette butts were scattered along the path to the beach and on the beach itself. Getting in touch with the hotel was impossible, so if you need help, forget it. Several areas were under maintenance, including the elevator and bungalow. The pool was freezing, the beer warm, and the buffet food very bad. The mattress was soft. They advertised ice cream in the elevator, but it turned out not to be included in the all-inclusive package.

CUA was the better dining experience for us. The food was really good, the kitchen staff quickly made a variety of dishes and prepared items to our choice, and refills came promptly. The dining staff there were friendly and helpful, with fast service. Sunset Grill was just OK, though we weren't satisfied: the food wasn't hot, choices were limited, and refills were very slow. The kitchen was slow too. One omelette took more than 15 minutes, and food was either overcooked or too oily. The dining staff were good at both CUA and Sunset Grill. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive, from the luggage pickup onward. Front desk responded quickly, and room service was very good. Even when we asked a second time for cleaning, they came, and were kind and polite. Fresh towels and water bottles were provided daily. We had the all-inclusive package. The souvenir shop at Emporio had a pretty good selection and better prices than Souvenir Mexican Outlet, which was too pricey. Someone at the towel counter kept pressuring guests to take the underwater sea life experience, which was irritating. Otherwise, we had an awesome stay at Emporio Cancun.
