Nomads Party Hostel

I came back expecting a good review to write, but instead I found my lock cut and my bag, including money and belongings, dumped in a trash bag in another room. I’d left for a few days, thinking it would only be one or two, but I was away longer. They wanted to charge me for storage and brushed off the damage. I’d have been fine paying to store the bag, and in hindsight I should have told them I’d be gone extra days. But money was missing, and they told me to prove it, as if I’d taken a photo before leaving. My original stay was enjoyable, apart from the pool being very small. I cancelled that night and went elsewhere. I leave the next day, so I’m stuck choosing between spending my last day in Cancun dealing with police or taking the $200aud loss and enjoying the day. Update: They supposedly have footage, but say they can’t provide the minutes around the opening, when the bag was moved, or the several minutes leading up to it. Convenient. There’s now no doubt in my mind this was an internal theft by staff.

The downtown location is a real plus, in the authentic part of Cancun with great restaurants, shops, and more. Nomads was super clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are good common spaces for hanging out and meeting people, plus plenty of activities. The rooftop has a great bar and really good food, and they hold evening activities up there too. I had a really good stay.

Brandon was amazingly nice and helpful, and my room was clean and cozy. The shared areas were spacious and tidy too. It’s centrally located in Cancun, and the airport was less than 20 minutes away. I only had two nights and was on a tight schedule, so I couldn’t join any activities. A pity. I’d love to stay again if I come back to Cancun.

Everything else was fine, and one staff member whose name I didn’t get helped me book tours and activities that were super fun. I’m taking off one star for how the front desk treated me at check-in. They wouldn’t let me check in before 3, which is fair since that’s the time they give. But they were letting quite a few other guests of different nationalities check in early.
