Hotel Nyx Cancun

The staff made the holiday so much fun. Everyone was smiling, friendly, and helpful, and the service went above and beyond. At the pool, the entertainment team ran activities every day, including water volleyball, aquarobics, bracelet making, and a guacamole workshop. Jordan, Fransisco and Stephanie, thank you. Oscar's daily morning yoga classes were the best; he's a great teacher. The gym was good too. The room was spacious and clean, the beach beautiful, and the food was great with à la cartes available. The location is convenient, close to the mall. I'd highly recommend it.

That IV treatment ended up costing me $150, and I was still so sick days later that I needed it. My wife and I both came down with severe food poisoning at the same time after eating at the Deck. We lost more than half of our April 6-15 all-inclusive vacation to it. The meal had tasted off, and the first few days were brutal. I can’t remember ever feeling that sick. We also heard reports of similar symptoms from other guests. Friends traveling with us overheard people talking about it, and another couple told us they’d heard the same thing too. The resort itself is beautiful. The grounds and rooms were lovely, and most of the staff were great. I really had been looking forward to the trip, so I want to be fair about those things. But seeing how food was handled at Umami made the illness less surprising: a kitchen worker picked up raw chicken from a drawer with bare hands, moved it to her other hand, then shut the drawer with the hand she’d touched the chicken with. No gloves or sanitation that I could see. Afterward I contacted the hotel and explained what happened. They offered a free room upgrade on a future stay, but didn’t acknowledge the food safety concern or reimburse the medical costs. That wasn’t meaningful to us. I don’t usually write reviews like this, but future guests should know. Be careful about what and where you eat if you stay here.

The beach was amazing, and we loved the place. There’s lots to do, with plenty of activities, and the people working there were consistently warm, kind, and helpful. The food was delicious too, and for the price and quality I’d absolutely return and recommend it. A heads-up if walking is difficult for you: getting around involves quite a bit of walking, though it isn’t extreme. They can put you in a room with elevator access for an extra charge. Humidity sometimes left a faint moldy smell. It was minimal, and switching on the AC helped. When we asked to have the room cleaned, they took care of it right away. We had an unforgettable stay!

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and how spotless everything was. The beach was looked after well, with seaweed cleared several times a day. The big mall is close by too, so we walked over every other evening. There was always something happening in the hotel’s daily programs. Our room was very clean, and room service was excellent. The staff were welcoming and so friendly. Marco, Manuel, and Abimael deserve a special thank you for their kindness and attention during our stay. The food was incredible. Balam became our favorite for breakfast and dinner, while The Deck on the beach was handy for lunch or a quick appetizer without leaving the sand. The sushi restaurant on the grounds is also well worth trying. We had an amazing week at NYX Hotel and would happily come back.
