Occidental Costa Cancún All Inclusive

The rooms I saw were outdated and had maintenance problems. We had trouble with our rooms and were moved twice, though the staff dealt with it professionally despite a few issues. They were fantastic and always willing to help. The pool and beach were great, and the food was consistently good across the resort. We had a great time overall and would stay again if prices were competitive.

It was good value for money, with a good pool, facilities, and activities. Food and drinks were included at all three meal times. Staff were a mixed bag, some attentive and others disinterested, but we didn’t mind as long as the food and drinks kept flowing!

The buffet is where this hotel really shines. My wife is Thai and usually gets bored even faster than I do with all-inclusive trips. We’ve been to the Maldives and Madeira and were bored by day four, but here she absolutely loved the buffet food. She went eight days without Thai food, apart from one Thai meal. The rooms are basic and I wouldn’t call them 4 star, but they’re spotless and spacious, with comfortable beds and a hot, powerful shower. There are also Italian, Sea food, and Mexican restaurants. The Italian was good and I’d go again. We’re trying the Mexican on our last night, but the Sea food was poor. The waiters can be hit or miss. Most are really good, and Vanilly stood out, looking after us as if we were the only people in a very busy buffet restaurant. Lovely guy, worth his wages ten times over. The beachside service was a real bright spot for me, especially Henry at the bar. The buffet offered a bit of everything, and staff kept the drinks coming while joining in the fun. Housekeeping stayed on top of our needs and refilled the water and other drinks. It was easy to get around by rideshare or on foot, and the beds, pillows, and comforters were lovely. The DJ mixed Spanish and English songs, and the resort seemed to do its best to keep the beach clean. The water was pretty, with yachts and pirate ships to watch, and the property was easy to figure out on your own. There were tradeoffs. Entertainment was just so-so for what I'm used to, and the gym had equipment but few lower-body machines. The spa massage was very gentle, though they fixed things right away when I explained what I wanted, so say clearly if you prefer firm pressure. Check-in was a hassle. My friend and I expected three beds, but staff wanted us to share one. Some employees pushed timeshare sales; we had booked the timeshare property, but were placed at this location instead. There's no business center, and the internet was sketchy, though it worked better once we left the room. Desserts were awful, and I liked the buffet food more than the restaurants. Walking down the beach showed how dirty the ocean is, and the vendors were pushy. Music was loud near our room, the elevator was very slow, the luggage scale and ATMs didn't work, and there were no currency conversion signs.
