Ocean Dream Cancún by GuruHotel

I couldn't stay another four nights and left early for a different resort, even though I'd booked a full week. I asked for a refund for the nights I was leaving, but it was denied. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, and I wish I'd stayed home instead. I'd booked a room with a balcony hot tub and a great view, but the room smelled very musty as soon as I entered. The air conditioner dripped onto the bed near my feet, the balcony door wouldn't lock, and the shower had only one door. Hot water at the shower and sink lasted four minutes at most. The hot tub was filthy, so I didn't use it. After an excursion, the bathroom smelled as if seaweed were in there. For your own sake, don't book this place. If I could give negative stars, I'd give the maximum.

The location is excellent, close to everything in the hotel zone, and the room had an incredible beach and ocean view. The pools and restaurant are nice, the bed was very comfortable, and the price was reasonable. But the rooms are dated and inconvenient, with just one tiny trash bin tucked into the bathroom. The soap and shampoo don't fit in the shower nook, and the in-room jacuzzi tub felt like a gimmick. It took more than two hours to fill. Coffee costs extra, as does adding another guest. The room says the pools open at 8am, but when I was swimming at 8:30, workers yelled that they don't open until 9. The pool looked a bit dirty, with plastic in the water and a film on the surface. Security was annoying, and getting guards' attention to enter or leave was difficult. The headboard and shelves were barely attached to the wall, and I saw several bugs in the room. It's a decent stay at the right price, but the rooms need work. I wanted to like the hotel for its view, but too many problems need attention.

Everything was clean and tidy, and the staff were attentive and professional. I felt safe and comfortable, and the hotel is right on the beach, with two well maintained pools and a clean beach area. There wasn't much sargassum, so it didn't really bother me, though the beach could use some cleaning for it. For a 3-star hotel, I got what I expected and paid for, and think it's a really good option. It is a little outdated, and the two elevators are slow and perhaps too small for the hotel's capacity. My only real complaint is that the beds in rooms for four are small, about 120/130 x 190. There were just two of us, so we each had our own bed. Otherwise, it would have felt cramped. I recommend it and plan to return.

We arrived about two hours before check-in, and they let us use the pool and gave us clean towels while we waited. The staff were friendly and great to deal with, and were also willing to help move the big mirror in front of our bed. The private beach area is beautiful and clean. This is my favorite hotel in Cancun now.
