Hotel Plaza Caribe

Breakfast comes with one of five marked choices plus coffee. Our room had a bit of a funny smell, but it wasn’t too bad. The hotel is right at the ADO bus stop, which is another plus. Nice stay overall.

The trees and facilities were lovely, and we even spotted a couple of peacocks. The location worked well, though there were some sketchy people outside. With all the traffic and people moving around by the bus station, it didn’t feel too bad. I wouldn’t stay longer than one night. I stayed twice in two different rooms. The second one was newer and better maintained than the first. Neither room had a microwave, refrigerator, or safe. The second room had a door between the shower and toilet, and no gap at the top of the door, though the towels still had orange stains. In the first room, some areas were poorly maintained, and every towel had odd orange marks. They often gave us the wrong number of towels, too. There was a gap between the top of the door and the wall, so light came in at night and we could hear people walking outside. A thin sliding door separated the room from the shower, but there was no door between the shower and toilet. Bugs could get in through the fan above the toilet, which connected directly to outside. (see pics 1-8; second room: pics 9-10) I’m not sure why this is listed as a 4-star hotel. It definitely didn’t feel like one.

Our room was clean and had clean bedding, working AC, a smart TV, and no noise that we could hear. The WiFi was fast, with routers along the hallways. We booked a Superior Double on the second floor after asking to see it, since the reviews had made us unsure. It was a very nice room. The hotel is old, but it looked recently renovated. I don’t know whether the owners have fixed the problems mentioned by others. I’m glad we didn’t see the caged birds, and hope they’ve been set free. We booked mainly because the hotel is directly across from the ADO station. Lots of reviews praise the location, but I’m not convinced it’s a good place to stay. It may be the nicest hotel around there, but for 50-60MXN you can take an Uber and reach a much nicer part of town in under ten minutes.

Handy if you need to catch a bus, but I’d only stay one night. Don’t take a ground-floor room, it’s noisy and people don’t seem to care. The front desk was unfriendly.
