The grounds are beautiful and very clean, and the resort looks great. Even the toilet paper smelled very nice. But there are things that need to change. The food wasn’t good, and the menu was very limited. Most of the high-end liquor wasn’t available to buy. When we first checked in, they tried to sell us a club timeshare, and it felt like the resort catered more to members. Restaurant reservations weren’t available until after 8 PM, and some only opened up after 8:30. When I tried to rent a chair and umbrella, members got preference. Staff seemed to treat guests according to their bracelet color, and there were times they helped people with members’ bracelets ahead of me, even though I wasn’t a member and had arrived first. There were hardly any pool or beach chairs for non-members because most were reserved for members. I tried to pay for one of those chairs but was told I couldn’t, and could only look for an empty one that wasn’t reserved. Guests also can’t reserve chairs in the morning with their belongings, which I think is fair. The property is lovely and spotless, but the issues I’ve mentioned need attention.

The ocean views are a real plus, and all the rooms are amazing, so I wouldn’t worry about which one you choose. This is a 4.5-star luxury resort with around 300 rooms, quite close to the airport. There’s free entertainment every night, and I thought it was worth the money. Christian from the concierge team was incredible to deal with, and the service from all the staff was great. There are four restaurants: Thai, Italian, International, which is mostly Mexican food, and Fuego, the grill. The Thai place is the smallest, so it’s the hardest one to get a reservation for. The resort seems to draw an older crowd, probably around 47 on average, and some of the nightly shows have 80s and 90s themes. A tip for first-time guests: check in and go relax. Leave the vacation planner, public relations desk, and presentation person for another day, because dealing with those three can take a very long time. At Palace Resorts, you have to buy status, unlike major chains where frequent stays earn it, and the sales team can be extremely aggressive. Come back to them once you’ve rested. You’re entitled to resort credits, but they have lots of exclusions and conditions, so don’t feel you have to use them. My one complaint is how hard Palace makes it to spend those credits.

We loved the quiet pool, though we also had fun dropping by the party pool for games. The resort wasn’t crowded, so there was no fight for pool chairs, and we could move between pools easily. They kept the beach very clean too. Sun Palace has recently been updated, and our base-level room was lovely, with a hot tub. The gym had everything we needed, and the drinks definitely weren’t watered down. There was entertainment every day and night, so there was always something going on. Service was outstanding throughout. Staff went out of their way to make us feel special, from the hot towels when we arrived to the bell service. We booked a shared airport shuttle, but they gave us a private one, which was a lovely surprise. I’d recommend arranging a shuttle through the hotel because there are lots of scams and ripoff taxis right outside immigration. Pool service was quick and attentive, and the servers were so sweet. We especially loved Fuego, where Kevin served us, and Trattoria, with Abel. The servers really went above and beyond. The food was generally pretty good for an all-inclusive, and Fuego was by far our favorite. Hotel staff checked on us often during the stay, and there were several chances to give feedback. They were open to hearing what we had to say, which was mostly good. There are lots of hotels to choose from, but we’re glad we picked Sun Palace. It was a really fun, relaxing way to recharge before the new year, and we’re sad to leave. We didn’t take any day trips or tours, or try the special offerings, because they were a bit expensive, but we still had a great time. I’d highly recommend some palace for a Cancun trip.

The location is good and the beach is beautiful. Front desk staff were okay, and definitely better than the waiters and cleaning staff, who were rude and took forever. The food was bland. I didn’t enjoy lunch or dinner, though breakfast was nice, and I’d recommend the café for the best coffee and crepes. I’m giving it one star because the food and service are a big part of the experience, and I wouldn’t return. If it were a cheap hotel, I might not care as much, but my husband and I were paying $600 a night. The food and service were horrible for that price.

Sun palace Cancún was just right for our honeymoon. We had wonderful experiences with the staff at the spa and beauty salon. Valeri was so nice and got fun conversations going, and Beatriz was hilarious and a great teammate with her during our mani/pedi. Marta and Deysi were amazing too. By the pool and beach, Lizabeth was our favorite waitress. Perfect vacation.
