Hotel Beach Don Gonzalo

The staff were amazing, and the rooms were very clean. I also had hot water and good pressure in the shower. A couple of things to know: payment is cash only. WiFi depends on the phone lines, so when phone or cell service is down, there’s no WiFi or TV. Best to enjoy the outdoors then.

Celestun is a place I really like and plan to visit again, though I probably won’t stay at this hotel next time. It’s close to the beach and clean, with hot water in the shower. But our room smelled strongly and had mould; they brought us a dehumidifier, which helped a bit. Internet was weak, and room cleaning only happened when we asked, so during our five nights it was cleaned once. Breakfast was available, but service was very slow, with one item brought out at a time. The price also felt high, especially with an extra tax added at the end as a surprise. Pets were supposedly not allowed, yet a family had a very noisy dog that barked whenever it was outside its room.

The place is near the beach and has a nice pool. Rooms are decent, and the staff are friendly and helpful, though they only speak Spanish. Breakfast was good but cost extra. There was some noise from dogs, roosters, and vehicles, and the WiFi was poor, especially on my laptop.

The neighbors’ roosters and dogs made noise late at night and very early in the morning, so don’t count on sleeping past 5:00am. I know that isn’t the hotel’s fault, but be aware. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. My one complaint about the hotel itself was a sewer smell in the lobby where breakfast was served. I found somewhere else to eat, so it didn’t bother me.
