Hotel San Julio

From here, the town plaza, beach bars and restaurants, and the launch spot for flamingo boat tours are all under a five-minute walk. We picked the hotel for its location and were happy with it. It sits right on the beach, with a couple of palapas and beach chairs for lounging. The rooms are basic but have AC, a refrigerator, and cable TV. Internet, water, and electricity all worked well. There’s also a refrigerated drinking water dispenser and coffee and tea.

The location is the only good thing I can say about this place, and they charge too much for what you get. There’s no parking, so you have to find a space on the street. The shower was terrible, with no pressure or hot water, and the hard beds made sleeping painful. We had only sheets, no comforters, and found sand on the furniture. There were cockroaches, too. WiFi was very slow and barely reachable from most of the hotel. Celestún doesn’t have many options, but I’d rather stay in Mérida and drive over for the day.

It’s a charming little place, and easily the nicest of the hotels on offer in Celestun. There are only six rooms, right on the beach with a private beach area. I had a really pleasant stay and wished I could have stayed a couple more days. The room was spotless, and the AC got very cold. The hotel is right on the beach, with a couple of swings and chairs on the sand where you can hang out. We were offered a boat ride and took it. It was beautiful.
