Hotel Las Dunas

The hotel wasn't what it looked like online, but I gave it a try anyway. I had paid for a room with a double bed, then found the door only opened halfway and the bedsheets were disgusting, with what looked like signs of bed bugs. The fan screeched loudly and kept switching off and back on by itself. The air conditioning barely worked. My wife and I left after about 30 minutes, though we'd already paid for three nights. I didn't expect all my money back, but thought I'd get something. They said they'd refund 1000 pesos, but that never happened. I'll contact my bank and tell them not to accept any charges from the hotel, and let them know we'd canceled our reservation. I 1000000% do not recommend this hotel.

The people were very friendly. It's a simple beach type hotel, and we ate there a few times. Be specific when ordering food and you should be fine. We don't like refried beans.

First one star review for me. They didn't answer the phone, and when I went to the hotel door I waited more than three minutes. I know, I know, patience. They require you to leave your ID, so I handed over one that wasn't important to me. Then I found out the wifi is only in the public area and there's no TV. I was desperate for a hotel, so I stuck it out. The rooms were large and clean, until my niece spotted a cockroach the size of a cigar in the bathroom. I shut the door and got rid of it, the darn thing was quick. When it was time to shower, the water was actually salty, so salty the fixtures were corroded and you weren't sure they'd work when you turned them on. At checkout, they told me to bring the towels I'd used from the bathroom. I did, got my ID back, and got the hell out of there. Sheesh.

The staff are so helpful, and I love them. Best food in Chelem.
