Staybridge Suites Chihuahua

The hotel itself was nice, and I enjoyed most of my stay. The billing was the problem. I booked in dollars through IHG a week ahead at a stated price, but they charged me in pesos using 22 pesos to the dollar when the actual rate was 19.43. They described the 12.5% increase as exchange rate fluctuation. I live internationally, and that didn't seem like a legitimate conversion; it felt like a hidden surcharge. Neither IHG nor the hotel would help. I'd stay here again, but would book through Expedia to get the advertised rate, or pay in pesos at the hotel.

I've returned to this Staybridge several times and have never run into a problem. The rooms are consistently cared for and sanitized, and the property stays clean. It's always been a comfortable, dependable place to stay.

When my wife and I arrived at 8:30 pm, the desk told us our reservation had been canceled for lack of a valid payment method, even though I had paid with miles through my Capital One app the day before. They'd oversold the hotel and had no room to offer us. The front desk man wouldn't look me in the eye or apologize for the trouble. I tried calling the hotel to find out why they'd canceled, but they never answered. My credit card company later returned my miles. In the end, I found a place up the road that was just as good or better for less, so I guess the cancellation worked out. I won't consider a Staybridge again.

The rooms are clean, there's a full-size fridge, and the location is good and fairly quiet. I've stayed three times, though, and this year's breakfast was the worst. I went out to buy avocados, good yogurt, cheese, ice cream, and strawberries from Sam’s club to make up for what was missing. Maybe the breakfast cost them two stars.
