Hotel Spa Taninul

The sulphur spring was great, and being in the jungle with a lot of potatoes around was awesome. When we visited, there were hardly any guests, and the place seemed kind of forgotten. The hotel needs a makeover. Our rooms had no TV, and Wi-Fi reception needs improvement for modern needs.

Most of the staff were very friendly, and the place seems to have a lot of potential, though it may have been magnificent years ago. It’s really not maintained now. The pool was dirty, most attractions were closed, including the cave, temazcal, and tirolesa, and the bars were shut except for the lobby bar, which only had beer because they lack a liquor license. The restaurant had only a few simple dishes and kept a very tight morning schedule. The rooms were okay but extremely noisy, both through the windows and from drunk people in the hallway.

The only real plus is that the rooms have AC. The place is badly outdated, and the dirt road to get there is a nightmare. There’s so much potential, but the pool area was filthy. They say there’s no Wi-Fi because guests should rest, yet they have satellite TV, which feels like a stretch.

The room smelled awful and had large patches of mold, with an outdated bathroom and an old tub. Then, the next morning, they demanded extra payment for additional people. I told them the reservation was for four people in one room with two beds, and that four people or two people were shown at the same price on my iPhone. They treated us badly both times. We’d arrived the previous night and were told there was no reservation, so they wanted us to pay again. We refused because we’d already paid online, and they eventually let us stay. I said I’d contact the hotel site where I paid, expecting them to fix the error, and then get back to the hotel about honoring the same price. This place isn’t worth staying in. It stinks of mold, and instead of treating paying customers fairly, they seem focused on squeezing more money out of us through dirty tricks.
