Hotel Casa Cielo

We loved El Cuyo, but the hotel wasn’t a good fit for us. I booked a two-night stay partly because of the many positive reviews, so I wanted to share our much less positive experience. The location is very good, close to the beach, though the hotel isn’t right on it, and the restaurant has great views. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Staff were either nice or indifferent, which was fine, and the food suggestions from reception were welcome. The pool didn’t look very clean, but the sunbed area was nice. The room cost USD 200 per night, which felt far too high for the standard and amenities. It was beside the stairs to the restaurant, and guests on the ground floor also walked past our door. The curtain didn’t cover the whole door, so people could look in. To get privacy, we had to close a heavy curtain that blocked the air and light. At 7am, staff were sweeping, talking, and preparing breakfast, which woke us up. The room could have been bright, but only if we gave up any privacy. It had a bed, one bedside table with a lamp, a closet, and bare white walls, nothing else. It felt like a cheap hostel, especially compared with other rooms that seemed to have decorations. The bathroom was large, but there were cockroaches and other bugs at night. I understand the climate may be a factor, but I expected a bit more. Breakfast was extremely poor. For the price, I’d expect decent coffee or something besides eggs.

We’ve stayed here more than once, and it’s been a good experience each time. It’s a gorgeous little boutique hotel facing the sea, just a few steps from the beach. It’s small, so it never feels crowded, and it’s a perfect spot for peace and quiet. The price is right, too. ‘G’, the manager, is the best: super friendly, really knowledgeable, and always ready to help and share.

We had a great stay at Casa Cielo and will definitely come back. There are lots of food options nearby, though we ate at the hotel a couple of times because the food was so good. I especially recommend the shrimp tacos. The hotel is right on the beach, with its own beach area and sunbeds if you want to use them. The pool is beautiful and sunny all day. The place is really well maintained, and the staff are lovely and very helpful. Our room was cleaned every day, which was a really nice touch. We couldn’t fault the stay.

We stopped by for happy hour on the upper patio, thinking we’d have an early evening snack and drinks. We ended up staying for hours. The food was exquisite, the service outstanding, and the view amazing. Definitely recommend coming for happy hour or a regular meal.
