The fast same-day laundry service was useful and reasonably priced. I hope this comes across as constructive feedback, because the issues seem easy to improve. There wasn’t one major problem, but lots of small omissions added up and made the stay feel poorly thought through. We paid around £120 per night for a family room at Hotel Mexhe. The room itself was comfortable and fairly clean, but the price felt high for what was provided. Breakfast was very limited: one plate each morning, though it changed daily, with small portions and only filtered coffee or tea. There was no decaf, juice, or other alternative. Other basic comforts were missing too, including drinking water and enough sun loungers for the number of guests. Reception closed at 3pm, so there was no evening support. Since the beach is wild and has no facilities, providing umbrellas for guests to take there would make a big difference. In the room, toiletries were minimal, with no conditioner, and there was no hairdryer. The body wash was diluted after the first day. One cold, windy evening I needed to dry my hair, but reception was already closed and I couldn’t get a dryer. The safe was there but didn’t work, and we were told no safe was available. We were given only one room key, which felt odd and unsafe in case it was lost. El Cuyo is a small, developing town, so expectations are different. Still, at £120 a night, the price doesn’t line up with the comfort and service offered.

We really enjoyed how thoughtfully set up and well cared for the property felt. It’s tucked away, so parking on the street right outside worked well, and the centre, beach, and restaurants are all an easy walk. The pool and all the little fairy lights made the grounds lovely. Our kitchen had the basics, so we made breakfast when we wanted something specific, or picked up a simple one from the hotel when we felt lazy. The staff were incredibly helpful, and getting quick, polite replies on WhatsApp was a big plus. Whatever we asked for, they sorted out. Loved our stay.

The staff were genuinely lovely and quick to help, and the breakfast could be brought to the room or eaten in the shared areas. My room was comfortable, clean, and spacious, with a good bed and clean bedding. The small kitchen was only partly equipped. At around £100 a night, though, the value didn’t feel right. There are roughly 10 rooms, so the hotel could have 20-25 guests, but only four sun loungers, even though there’s space for more. There’s no free drinking water in the rooms, and the tap water isn’t safe to drink. Reception shuts at 3 pm, which is limiting if something comes up later or overnight and you haven’t planned ahead. The breakfast looked nice but came as one set option, with no choice, juice, fresh water, or other drinks. The hand and body wash was watered down after the first day and wasn’t replaced. My room had no TV despite having the space and connections, though other rooms did. It also had a dehumidifier that didn’t work. We noticed these things more when a windstorm kept us inside. El Cuyo is a charming, beautiful place that’s still developing, and I’m usually forgiving about that sort of thing. But the prices are similar to boutique hotels in much more developed destinations. The staff were lovely and the stay was comfortable, but for this rate it just didn’t add up.

The balcony was a peaceful place to sit, with lovely ocean views and a glimpse of jungle. Mexhe Apartments is also well placed, about a block and a half from the beach and an easy walk to the best restaurants and the charming town centre. I spent three phenomenal days there. The apartment was in mint condition, with two very large bedrooms, a roomy living area, a fully equipped kitchen, and two spotless bathrooms. Everything was in great shape and the furniture looked new. Joaquin, the manager, made sure everything was perfect. Thanks, Joaquin, for a wonderful stay. I plan to come back often.

We felt right at home in this comfortable, clean space. The beach is so close, and we loved relaxing by the nice pool or out on the balcony. Breakfast was included and there was plenty of it.
