I checked out of La Casa de Maria today after two days, and I left with a bad experience. I'm sharing this so someone else doesn't go through the same thing. Maria took my money, but barely acknowledged me. She spoke with my friend, who is of Mexican descent, throughout our stay. At first I assumed she only spoke Spanish. Then a white gentleman checked in, and I was surprised to see Maria have no trouble speaking with him in English.
The house was very clean and well kept, and the rooms and bathrooms were in good shape. We enjoyed the lovely nighttime view and the good breakfast. My stay at La Casa De Maria was pleasant, and Maria was a great host.
I wouldn't recommend staying here. Dianza Hendrickson's review describes my concern too: the host takes your money and then doesn't acknowledge you. I also found the shower drain clogged, black widow spiders and ants around the property, and dirty water in the air conditioning or bathtub that didn't seem suitable for bathing or drinking. The gate didn't work, and I worried about site safety, including a glass beer bottle thrown by someone from the neighborhood. The reviewer also alleges that the host keeps microphones and spies on guests while on site, which raised privacy concerns for me. Take your safety, time, and money somewhere that cares about your well-being.
Maria looked after us very well and was a lovely host. Great place, and I'd definitely stay again.
It's tricky to locate on Google Maps, but once you arrive, casa de maria is a great place to stay. maria is friendly, the rooms are clean, and she's only a few minutes from the center of ensenada.
