The noise made it impossible to get proper rest. I could hear the neighbors watching Mexican comedy shows until 1 a.m., having sex, using the bathroom at 4 a.m., and getting up at 6. There’s no privacy or sound insulation, so I ended up following their schedule. At around $700 a night, Demetria felt wildly overpriced for a run-down, dirty, noisy place with poor management. It was 100% shabby and 0% chic. The pool area was dirty and depressing. The pool was still covered in plastic at 8:30 a.m., even though it was supposed to open at 8. The sauna didn’t work, the gym had no real equipment or even a mat, and there were no towels. In the room, the shower had one outlet that gave boiling water and another that blasted freezing water. It flooded the bathroom, so we had to make a towel dam to keep our clothes dry. Housekeeping was a farce. We left at 8 in the morning and came back at 5 p.m. to find the room untouched. Three cleaning staff were also hanging out in a guest bedroom with the door wide open, which felt completely inappropriate. The room itself was shabby, dirty, and neglected. It felt abandoned instead of carefully designed, and you practically sleep in the bathroom. The terrace was filthy and its door wouldn’t close. Some curtains were broken, half the window was covered with sticky plastic film, and several things in the room didn’t work. The main elevator was broken when we arrived, so we were directed to a grimy service elevator with a used Coke can and trash on the floor. That set the tone. The staff in the tower seemed clueless, and the manager, Diego, was openly dismissive. His answer to complaints was basically, “Talk to your travel agent.” That’s giving up on customer service. We paid around $700 a night expecting a boutique design hotel, but got a dirty, badly run-down place pretending to be luxury. It was almost comical. Avoid.

The whole wedding week became a stressful mess, and my daughters were crying at the front desk while Expedia had to get involved. Friends who had booked months ahead were told they’d be staying at “their bungalow property,” which wasn’t nearby or comparable as claimed. I tried to reach management, but no one was available. A clerk said she “can’t take people out to accommodate our guests.” We had to move my best friend to another hotel, and even with Expedia’s help it was a terrible experience. We’d chosen Demetria for our daughter’s wedding and hoped for a personal, hospitable experience. The location was great and the price seemed fair, but the staff showed little empathy or professionalism. Months earlier, we had stayed there to try it out, and the manager wouldn’t let us see the inside of a suite. We let that go, thinking they might be fully booked. Later, they wouldn’t guarantee a single-bed suite for the wedding week, saying it was “subject to availability upon arrival.” We wondered why a single bed was so hard to secure compared with a double. By then, it was too late to change our website. When we arrived a week before the wedding, there was no acknowledgment at all, no card or flowers. I know it wasn’t required, but a small kind gesture would have meant a lot at a boutique hotel. On the wedding day I arrived at 6:30 a.m. with the hairstylist. The entrance was dark, the doors were locked, and nobody was at the desk. A guest coming down in the elevator let us in. We were directed up the service stairs carrying all the equipment, with no help offered. The room was large, empty, dingy, and dark, with poor lighting and no outlets. Our original conference room had apparently been booked too. A moment after we went upstairs, the hairstylist was turned away because we hadn’t “reserved space.” There were other safety and security issues I won’t get into, including dark spots on the main floor of the restrooms where several guests nearly fell. Please think carefully about other options before booking Demetria. I say this in good faith as the mother of the bride. I felt helpless and mortified.

My girlfriend said this is one of her favorite hotels in the city. The rooms are quiet, the views are nice, and we had one of the better evenings I’ve had here. The bed felt a little hard to her, though. We’ll come again.

After staying here for years, I was really let down by the service. I waited more than 30 minutes for a margarita by the pool, then dealt with an inept front desk that later charged me $20 for a chocolate in the room. I’m not usually one to complain, but I won’t be coming back.

The room was dirty and poorly maintained, including the bathtub. The bed was uncomfortable, almost sunken and nearly on the floor, and the tiny bathroom wasn’t comfortable either. I chose this room for the bathtub, but the design was impractical. Everything was carpeted, and the black floor blended into the dim lighting. There was a “table” that was more like a step on the floor and hard to see. The hotel looks nice from outside and sounds good in theory, but for the price I expected better. They charged for everything, plus an extra “deposit” on top of the room rate. The staff were friendly, but the quality didn’t match how expensive it was.
