Hotel Casa del Sol

This is only a review of the spa service. The massage had no pressure at all, and the music, played from their phone, was interrupted by a loud alarm four times in an hour. The vapor room was cold, and the vapor shut off in under 10 minutes. The jacuzzi was cold to the touch and wouldn't turn on. When we raised it with the front desk, they said that's how it was supposed to be and offered no refund or other solution. The hotel itself may be fine, but skip the $120 (2400 peso) spa service. We just wasted our time.

Location was the one good thing here. We had four rooms and nobody was happy: they were small and uncomfortable, the mattresses were horrible, and the bathrooms were so cramped that a tall person would hit the wall while sitting on the toilet. The place was incredibly loud, with every sound carrying between rooms, so sleeping was impossible. I thought the staff were nice, but they sold us two tours that didn't match what had been advertised, and we felt deceived. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

The location is excellent, and the room was generally good value. Most of the staff were helpful and pleasant, and the night staff were excellent. Noise can be a problem: you hear it from the air shaft, lobby, and street, and the church bells next door will wake you whether you're ready or not. I used earplugs, but one night an amorous couple next door kept me annoyed until early morning. If you're sensitive to noise, this may not suit you.

The location is very good, right in the city center but away from any major street, and the terrace has a nice view. Breakfast was a great size with a mix of Western and traditional Mexican food. The chilaquiles were probably the best I've had on this trip. When we had a problem with our original room, staff moved us to another one. The first room had no bathroom window, felt damp, and smelled humid. Its broken flush seemed to be the source of the smell, and staff assured me it would be fixed. Also, although the hotel advertises itself with the spa, guests have to buy an extra package to use the saunas and pool. Maybe I missed where that was mentioned, but I think it should be made clear. Good value for the price.
